With the Masterplan Charging Infrastructure 2030, the Federal Government is pursuing a clear goal: charging electric vehicles should become simple and accessible for everyone. The strategy for charging, adopted by the Federal Government in November 2025, simplifies and accelerates approval procedures for the deployment of charging infrastructure, improves conditions for grid connections, and ensures more transparent and user-friendly charging services.
More and more people in Germany are choosing electric vehicles. For this trend to continue, charging must work seamlessly in everyday life – simply, reliably, and wherever it is needed. In this way, we strengthen Germany as an automotive hub while combining individual mobility with effective climate protection.
Investing – simple and targeted
Most people in Germany charge their electric vehicles at home. That is why the Federal Government is specifically supporting the expansion of charging infrastructure at multi-family residential buildings – places where, unlike single-family homes, charging options have so far remained limited.
At the same time, charging must be reliable for all types of electric vehicles. The Federal Ministry for Transport (BMV) supports companies in building charging infrastructure for electric trucks and buses, for example at depots and company premises. A nationwide network of high-power truck charging stations along motorways brings us closer to the goal of ensuring that every location in Germany can be supplied through electric freight transport.
Building charging infrastructure – fast and straightforward
Especially for small and medium-sized municipalities, expanding charging infrastructure can be a challenge. That is why the BMV, through the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure, supports local authorities with digital guidelines and training opportunities to help projects be implemented quickly on the ground.
Every charging point must be connected to the electricity grid. Particularly for high-capacity charging points – such as those for commercial vehicles – careful planning is essential. Here, the Federal Government is focusing on greater transparency and digital processes to simplify procedures and better integrate charging infrastructure into the power grid.
At the same time, innovative technologies such as bidirectional charging are being promoted. In this way, the smart charging infrastructure of tomorrow is already being created today.
Charging – reliable and convenient for everyone
For the future, it is crucial that charging integrates seamlessly into people’s daily lives. This means simple charging and payment processes, with understandable, competitive, and transparent prices – regardless of whether charging takes place spontaneously or through a contract-based service.
To further improve user convenience, the BMV aims, among other measures, to abolish overnight blocking fees and further improve accessibility at charging points.
In this way, we are building trust and convincing even more citizens of the benefits of electric mobility.
